Where does it hurt?
If your foot, your heel or a toenail hurts, don't ignore it. These are the problems we see most often at the clinic.
The sole of my foot or my heel hurts when I get out of bed
It's one of the most common reasons people come to see us. It's usually caused by plantar fasciitis, a heel spur or a walking pattern that overloads the foot. We assess how you walk, find the cause and treat it with custom insoles, stretching exercises and footwear advice.
I have an ingrown toenail
If the nail is digging in, red or weeping, don't wait and don't try to cut it yourself. We treat it at the clinic and, if it comes back, we fix it for good with minor surgery (nail surgery with phenol), under local anaesthetic and with no hospital stay.
I have hard skin, corns or cracked heels
We remove them painlessly in a chiropody session and explain why they appear: your footwear, the way you walk or dry skin. If they keep coming back, we look at how you walk.
I have a fungal infection in my nails or on my feet
Yellowish, thickened or brittle nails are often a sign of a fungal infection (onychomycosis). We diagnose it, clean the nail and recommend the most suitable treatment. The sooner it's treated, the sooner it clears up.
I have a verruca on the sole of my foot
Verrucas hurt when you walk and spread easily. We treat them at the clinic with cryotherapy or other treatments, aiming to clear them without leaving a scar.
I have a toe deformity (bunions, claw toes…)
Bunions (hallux valgus) and claw or hammer toes cause rubbing and pain, especially in shoes. We assess your case and can make silicone toe devices to protect vulnerable areas, or even correct the position of the toes in children. We also relieve pressure with insoles and footwear advice and, if needed, advise you on other treatment options.
My knees, hips or back hurt when I walk or run
Sometimes the problem starts in your feet. A biomechanical gait assessment shows us how your feet meet the ground and, if needed, we design custom insoles. It's especially useful if you run, play sport or spend long hours on your feet.
I have diabetes: why should I have my feet checked?
Diabetes can reduce feeling and circulation in the feet, and a small wound can become serious. We give you a full foot examination and the care you need to prevent ulcers. We recommend a check-up at least once a year.
My child walks oddly or complains about their feet
Flat feet, toe walking, in-toeing and frequent tripping are common concerns. We check how their feet are developing and how they walk, and give you advice on footwear.
I'm walking the Camino de Santiago and my feet hurt
Padrón is a stop on the Portuguese Camino. If you arrive with blisters, chafing, black toenails or overuse pain, call or WhatsApp us and we'll fit you in as soon as we can, so you can keep walking to Santiago.
When should I see a podiatrist?
When your foot hurts as you walk; if you have an ingrown toenail, hard skin, a fungal infection or verrucas; or if you have diabetes or play sport. And even without pain: a chiropody session every 6–8 weeks keeps your feet healthy.
Where is the clinic?
At Rúa Nova 1 (ground floor), Padrón (A Coruña), about 20 km from Santiago de Compostela, with wheelchair access. We see patients from Padrón and the surrounding area: Rois, Dodro, Pontecesures, Valga, Teo and A Estrada. By appointment only: call +34 667 661 193.
